DIY Wedding Makeup: Green Eyes

Green eyes are beautiful! We share tips for perfect DIY wedding makeup for brides (or grooms) with green eyes.

Green Eyed & Gorgeous!

Green eyes are a rare and unique feature that many people find incredibly alluring. Finding the right makeup to enhance your green eyes can be a challenge. The right eye makeup can bring out the natural beauty of your eyes and make them pop. On your wedding day, you also want to consider makeup choices that will make your eyes stand out in photographs. And make sure each makeup product is waterproof and smudge proof! Tears are not your only makeup challenge. Humidity, rain, cheek to cheek hugs, sweat can all impact the staying power of your makeup. Find our favorite waterproof mascaras here. With all this mind, here are three tips for DIY wedding makeup for our green eyed beauties.

1. Define your color palette

When defining your makeup color palette, it’s all about finding the right colors to complement and enhance the natural green tones in your eyes. You will also want to take into consideration your skin tone and hair color. Generally,  shades of purple, pink, and mauve are great options for green-eyed beauties. These colors are especially beautiful because they contrast against your green eyes and make them stand out. Additionally, shades of gold, bronze, and copper will help bring out the warmth in your green eyes.

Our Green Eye Palette Picks:

We love the simplicity and guidance in this flattering palette from Almay.

This palette from Urban Decay includes enough shades for a variety of looks.

We love when less is more, plus these colors from Revlon have serious staying power.

Prefilled makeup palettes specifically for green eyes can be a fantastic time saver if you plan to do your own wedding makeup. They take the guess work out of choosing the right colors and you know whatever you choose will be flattering. Plus, its fun to play around with different color combinations and a palette is an economical way to try a variety of colors. Looking for a dramatic and new look for your wedding day? 2. Do Not Be Afraid Of Liquid Eyeliner

Liquid and gel eyeliners are great tools for defining your eyes and making them stand out. Generally, liquid liners (like our favorite from NYX Professionals!) have greater staying power and provide more definition than pencil eyeliners. When choosing an eyeliner color, opt for shades that complement your green eyes and your chosen color palette.

Brown eyeliner compliments nearly any eyeshadow color. Navy eyeliner compliments nude, mauve, green and gold shades of eyeshadow. Purple eyeliner can compliment nude, mauve, browns and other purples. Apply a thin line of eyeliner to your upper lash line to create a subtle, yet defined look. You can also add a small flick at the end.

The key to liquid eyeline is to practice, practice, practice! Easy to use makeup remover pads make practicing a breeze.

3. Show Your Eyebrows Some Love

Your eyebrows frame your eyes and can make a big difference in the overall look of your wedding makeup. Several days before your wedding, pluck, thread or wax your eyebrows. Waxing or threading should be done by a professional esthetician, unless you have successfully done this on your own in the past and know what you are doing!

As for makeup, use a brow pencil fill in any sparse areas and create a defined arch. Avoid hard lines or angles that can make your eyebrows look fake. For a natural look, be sure to choose a color that matches your natural brow color. As always, practice ahead of time! Go slow, relax and breathe.

Our Picks For Perfect Eyebrows:

We love NYX Professionals eyebrow pencils because there are so many shades to choose from.

A long lasting setting spray helps keep makeup in place and shine at bay.

DIY Wedding Makeup

DIY wedding makeup is realistic and achievable. Doing your own wedding makeup gives you complete control over you look while saving time and money. Like everything else in a DIY wedding, don’t forget to practice! Everytime you try a new color or product, take a picture of the result so that you can remember what you tried where and how it looked. Eventually, take a photo of your day of look ahead of time with notes about products, shades and strategies, so that you can re-create the look, stress free, on your wedding day.
